Today's revenue model
Mintthicket does not currently sell coin packs, subscriptions, in-game items, cosmetic upgrades, advertising slots, affiliate placements or data. The site is offered as a free social entertainment experience for adults in Norway. Operating costs (hosting, domain, design, illustration, content review) are covered by the founding team out of pocket and from unrelated consulting work performed by team members outside Mintthicket.
What we never do
- We do not accept deposits or payments of any kind from players.
- We do not allow withdrawals or pay out cash, gift cards, vouchers, merchandise or cryptocurrency.
- We do not allow virtual coins to be transferred, sold or exchanged between users, accounts, or to any third-party platform.
- We do not run affiliate, referral or revenue-share arrangements with real-money gambling operators, anywhere in the world.
- We do not sell user data. There is essentially none to sell, by design.
- We do not embed third-party advertising or behavioural-tracking scripts.
If a paid model is ever introduced
Mintthicket might one day offer optional purchases to support continued development. If that ever happens, we commit to the following principles up-front, regardless of commercial pressure:
- Any optional purchase will be strictly cosmetic — themes, illustration packs, sound packs — and will never affect game outcomes or coin balances in a way that creates a financial incentive to play more.
- No purchase will be redeemable, transferable or convertible into real money, prizes or any other consideration.
- Coin top-ups, if offered, will be capped at a modest weekly amount and disabled entirely for any account that exhibits at-risk play patterns.
- Pricing, mechanics and limits will be disclosed openly in these terms, with at least 30 days' notice before any change.
- We will not introduce loot boxes, gacha mechanics, randomised purchases or any other mechanic that resembles real-money gambling.
Why publish this
Because in a category dominated by aggressive monetisation, the boring, restrained business model is the difference between a parlour and a casino floor. Saying out loud what we will and won't do — and committing to it in writing — makes it harder for a future version of us to drift.
For partners, regulators and press
